Our antidote for the Monday blahs? Blissful Martinique blues!

When the weekend comes to a close and Monday arrives with a thud, it's easy to get a case of the Monday blahs. Here's a little snapshop from an island getaway to bring some sunshine and a swath of tropical sea to your cell phone or computer screen. As far as we're concerned, ocean blues are the only kind of blues we're interested in experiencing. Where can you find this slice of paradise?

(I'd rather start Monday with an island getaway. Wouldn't you?)

We took this photo on the French Caribbean isle of Martinique. As you can see from the photo, in summer this stretch of beach is not exactly tourist central. You'll find it on the southwest side of the island, in a parish or commune called Les Anses d'Arlets. "Anse" means cove in French, and there are certainly some beautiful coves along this coastline. Here we were in Petite Anse, which is a small town with a beautiful church directly facing the water. There are a handful of restaurants where you can indulge in a delicious seafood lunch, and perhaps a Ti Punch (a typical French Caribbean cocktail).

Next time I'm back on Martinique, I'd seriously consider basing myself in Les Anses d'Arlets, because these fishing villages brim with authentic island culture, cuisine, and last but definitely not least, spectacular, unspoiled beaches. And now, with more direct flights from the U.S.A. to Martinique via American Airlines (from Miami) and starting soon with Norwegian (from Boston, New York, and Baltimore), it's just gotten a whole lost easier to enjoy these beautiful Martinique blues.
