The Island Runaways team is always ready to jump on a plane, ferry, or kayak in order to explore more of the islands -- particularly the beautiful Caribbean. This weekend, however, our mode of transport will be a regular car, rather than a jet! That's because Zickie and I are headed to "Taste of the Caribbean" at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Miami. We can hardly wait to attend this international, buzzing event on June 13th. So, what's this Taste of the Caribbean all about? Well, first and foremost, it is a yearly culinary competition with chefs from islands including Anguilla, Bahamas, Barbados, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia, Suriname and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

During the day on Friday you'll find culinary teams from the Bahamas, Barbados, Bonaire, the British Virgin Islands and the US Virgin Islands working feverishly to prepare a gorgeous competition lunch, consisting of three courses paired with wine.

On Friday night teams from Anguilla, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Suriname and reigning Caribbean Culinary Team of the Year – Puerto Rico, will prepare the three-course dinner, paired with wine. The results are bound to be spectacular, not to mention delicious...

Then, on Saturday, things change pace. On Saturday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 9, there's the event we are going to attend, a cultural and culinary showcase. Each national team will feature its own booth, where multiple chefs prepare tapas-sized specialities for lucky attendees, while bartenders craft a special Caribbean-inspired cocktail.

Beyond that, there will be live music, cooking demonstrations, destination information to inspire you to take that special vacation, and just lots of fun and festivity, Caribbean-style.

Will you be in the Miami area June 12th or 13th? If so, check out the tickets still available. It should be a fabulous two days of savoring fantastic Caribbean cooking and a real celebration of West Indian culture. And if you attend on Saturday, be sure to keep an eye out for the Island Runaways. Cheers!
