Eleven hundred miles northeast of New Zealand, in the South Pacific, lies an island nation whose very name conjures up a Shangri-La vision of palm trees bending over limpid, crystalline seas. Fiji, in the Fijian language "Matanitu Tugalala o Viti" doesn't consist of one single isle; it's actually an archipelago of 332 islands. Which brings us to the special tropical island getaway we're spotlighting today, a 500 acre, privately-owned jewel in the Yasawas islands of Fiji. Its name? Turtle Island.

The words "island paradise" are used all too frequently in travel writing, but in the case of the truly uncommercialized Turtle Island they seem to apply. With only 14 bures (Fijian villas) fronting the spectacular Blue Lagoon, Turtle Island never becomes crowded with visitors. And because the island has numerous beaches, each of them gorgeous, we hear that privacy, relaxation, and unspoiled beauty are in ample supply.

You might think that such an isolation and pristine beauty would mean roughing it. Not so, apparently! The bures have been decorated tastefully with a nod to Fijian style and culture. Guests can enjoy services at their spa, and feast on top notch cuisine. Fresh seafood comes from the surroundings sea and vegetables from their 5 acre garden.
Ready for some activities? You can try kayaking, windsurfing, horseback riding, paddleboarding, snorkeling, fishing, and more. Based on Turtle Island, you will have unparalleled tropical marvels to explore and experience.

On the other hand, you're perfectly free to lie in a hammock and simply soak in the views...or float in the ocean and savor a specially made cocktail or a tropical juice.

As I read about the delights of Fiji, I imagined it might takes days and days to reach this magical place. But a look on their website showed me that it was more straightforward than I thought: coming from the States, you can take a plane from Los Angeles direct to Fiji's Nadi Airport; Turtle Island's staff will arrange for a seaplane or a boat to carry you and yours the last leg to Turtle Island itself!

In terms of island getaways, Turtle Island sounds to us like the experience of a lifetime. There's much more to discover about this gorgeous spot, too much to fit into a blog post, so visit their website or their Facebook page if you want to see more enchanting photographs of one amazing private paradise.
