Haunted Halloween Cocktail: the Haitian Zombie!

The Island Runaways wish you a Happy Halloween! We’ve found you a dangerously scary island drinks recipe, in honor of today’s especially spooky cocktail hour.

This lethal mixture comes courtesy of Barbancourt, Haiti’s premier rum (or rhum) company.

By the way, have you ever tasted Barbancourt?

Like the rhum agricole made in Martinique, Barbancourt is not produced from molasses (as are most rums) but rather, made directly from sugar cane juice.

Then it’s double distilled, in a process similar to that of French Cognac. The result: smooth and sophisticated. Zickie and I strongly recommend you test out this fine rhum for yourself. Usually one drinks it neat or perhaps over a couple of ice cubes.

Since it’s Halloween, though, let’s get busy making a Haitian Zombie!

You’ll need approximately:

1 1/3 ounces 3 Star Barbancourt rhum

1 1/3 ounces white Barbancourt rhum

About 1/3 of an ounce of Haitian Clairin (This is a sugarcane “firewater” made only in Haiti. If you can’t find this, you can use aguardiente from Latin America.)

1/3 ounce of real grenadine

2/3 ounces of pineapple juice

2/3 ounces of lemon juice

crushed ice

Inside a shaker, put some crushed ice, and then pour in the rest of the ingredients. Shake the mixture, and strain it into a tall glass with fresh ice cubes. Garnish with a piece of pineapple and maraschino cherries.

Will you turn into a zombie if you drink a Haitian Zombie? It’s been known to happen. Be careful with this concoction: it is FRIGHTENINGLY strong! Cheers!
